A Goal, as defined by the dictionary, is the results or achievements toward which effort is directed or aimed at. Setting a goal is, therefore, an act that directs our focus and attention towards achieving a set objective in a given time or period.
Goals are usually categorized in two terms. Obviously, we have all heard about Short-Term Goals and Long-Term Goals. Nine times out of ten, we are often asked “where do you see yourself in so and so years” during an interview for a new position. They are usually referring to your short or long-term goals.
Short-Term Goals are goals you set to achieve in the shortest time possible. This time could be anywhere from a day, a week, a month or three to six months. These are goals that you want to cross off of your list.
When it comes to setting goals, we often make the mistake of looking at the long-term goals as short-term and ends up giving up when we do not see results or are not able to achieve it.
I have put together a few examples of some short-term goals we can all achieve easily in as little as a month’s time. At the end of this article, if you find any of these goals easy to work with, go ahead and do so and let me know what your thoughts are about this article as I would love to read all about them.
Some of the examples of Short-Term Goals are as follows;
1. New Language.
Begining with a new language may seem counterintuitive as the process of learning a new language can vary depending on the individual. Usually, it takes almost a year to master a new language.
Now with the help of the internet and media, Learning a New Language has not been so easy. The Idea here is to make it a short-term goal, so I recommend you practice the new language you find interesting for a month or two.
Doing so will enable you to have a knowledge about that; language and will be able to add to your vocabulary as well as have small conversations in that language at the end of the month or months you decide.
2. Eat Clean.
Eating clean has great health benefits. Now, I’m not saying go on a diet. We all like to eat some junk foods every now and then. When we find ourselves hungry but can’t prepare any food at that time because it will be too late. We turn to junk food to save the day.
You can decide to do this also for a month. Plan ahead and make sure you always have clean substitutes for your junk. Or you can prepare meals for 3 days in advance so you always have something clean to eat.
When you do this, it may be difficult in the beginning but when you stick with it, you will find some extra cash in your wallet from all the junk food you stopped buying. And also you will see some changes in your health, like being able to lose 5lbs to 10lbs at the end of the month.
3. Save Extra $100
If you are already saving, then you are a stallion! Now you can save a little extra from all the junk you stopped buying. You can also sacrifice a few little things you know you do not need to spend money on and add that to the savings.
It can be difficult saving an extra $5 dollars so in order to help you save without knowing, set up an autosave deduction with your bank or savings account from your source of income. That way the money will be saved before you even see it.
At the end of the term period, you decide to do this, you can use that extra cash to fulfill the purchase of something you really need or be able to finally buy that ticket you wanted for your favorite band.
4. Wake Up 1hr Early
I know sleep is amazing and you get to have beautiful dreams. Waking up early will be difficult in the beginning because that will be going against your normal wake up routine.
When you wake up early, you will, in turn, have an extra hour to, make yourself a healthy breakfast, get some exercise in, clean your room, or even do the laundry or dishes from last night.
Also, you get an hour to complete that assignment you postponed before the deadline hits. Waking up 1 hour early will give you a whole hour to invest in whatever activity you decide to spend your time on.

5. 20 – 50 Rep Exercise.
You have probably in some time ago said you were going to get a gym membership and workout for all sorts of reasons but you never got the strength to undertake that decision. Signing up for a gym can also be costly with all the add-ons and hidden fees.
At the same time, you still make plans to exercise but never get the time to do it. Now that you have decided to wake up an hour early, you can try a few workouts that are doable at home. Burpees, planks, push-ups, squats, abs and all sorts of no equipment needed workouts can now be done at the comfort of your own home.
Decide to do between 10 and 20 reps in any of the above mentioned or any workout of your choice a day during your one hour of spare time when you wake and see the benefits you will gain at the end of a month.
Investing 5 to 10 minutes of your time to meditate has a great number of benefits. You will be able to have a great awareness of your immediate surroundings and situation.
Meditating will leave you feeling relaxed and powered up for the day’s work. You can also do this early morning before work or at night before bed. It will provide you with the calm and stress-free feeling to help you sleep and rest fast.
7. Fix your Bed
Great job and well done if you do this already. If you are not, you may be amongst the majority of us who have a busy morning schedule and leaves the home shortly after waking up.
For this, you can try waking up about 15 or 30 minutes early to do so. This is one of the shortest activity we ignore very often. Taking a little time out of your sleep to do so will only reward yourself later in the day when you come back home from the long day at work. You know you will be coming home to a nicely made bed for you to rest yourself in.
8. Read a Book
Finding the time to read a book is not always a sweet ride, well, for some of us. We are often distracted by countless activities and notifications all over the place.
Taking 45 minutes out of your routine to reading a book from your favorite genre should not be that bad. Schedule it and set reminders in order to make it easy for you.
At the end of the month, you should be able to finish a whole book or two and will have some additional knowledge on a particular topic or behavior depending on your genre.
9. Leave Positive Notes
Okay, this may seem like a cliche for some. Although, others will find this interesting and necessary. Leaving a Positive note at work on your own desk or on the breakroom refrigerator is a great thing.
It can brighten up the day for someone at work and make them happy to come in every day. It can also encourage you yourself the next morning when you come to your desk.
You can keep doing this also for a month or however long you decide and you might just start a new positivity trend at work.
10. Learn a New Hobby
Learning a new Hobby to keep you occupied during your free or spare time is a great goal as you challenge yourself to learn something new. Hobbies are a fun way to stay active and motivated.
You can pick up knitting, learn a new magic trick, brush up on your moves on the dance floor, Jenga, fishing, bike riding, and so on. Some of these activities can be learned in a matter of weeks and you can try another.
Soon you will become a master of many arts and you can impress your friends or that crush you have had for so long and did not know how to break the ice.
11. Say a Prayer
We forget to give thanks and praises to the one we believe in. Taking a few minutes to say a prayer to the one you believe in will strengthen the relationship between you two.
Maybe you go to church on a Sunday, or worship on a Friday or Saturday. But that should not be the end of the communication between you and the one you believe in.
12. Follow The Law
Laws are set rules and regulations typically geared towards safety. It does not have to be just the ones in the constitution. Follow the road signs as a driver or as a pedestrian. Go with the policy and regulations at your workplace or organization.
This one is may seem difficult for the stubborn ones amongst us but at the end of the day, it is for your own safety and the safety of those around you.
13. Make a Budget
Budget the spending you do either on a weekly or monthly basis. This one can go along with the saving extra tip.
When you have a budget, you get to see where our money is actually going and how they are being spent. That way you can eliminate the unnecessary spends and put the extra cash into your savings.
14. Avoid the News/TV
Currently, all we hear on the news are just negativity, racism, politics, and terrorism. All these news just feeds the negative side of our mentality.
Stay away from the news and use that time to do something productive, like reading a book, listening to a podcast or learning a new found interest.
15. Random Acts Of Kindness
Do random acts of kindness wherever you find yourself. Acts of kindness are not always and does not have to cost money.
Just simple acts of kindness, like holding the door for the next person, saying please and thank you, complimenting others, helping with the groceries, telling your parents you love them and the likes.
Acts of kindness go round in a circle, so you will in return get your own dose of the kindness along the way.
These activities may make you wonder; are these even goals at all? Short-term goals are things you want to achieve as soon as possible. And what we do not realize is that the benefits of short-term goals make us ready to take on our long-term goals.
The above short-term goal examples are designed to instill in you, Discipline, Focus, Attentiveness, Ambition, Desire, Motivation, and Encouragement to make it easier for you to achieve your long-term goals.
When you are able to carry out these example in as little as a month or two months term, some of these are guaranteed to become a habit for you because you will begin to start seeing a change in how you go by the day. You will acquire the necessary experience and requirements to usher or transfer and transform you into an achiever ready to take on long-term goals.
