The term Stress was originated from the Latin word “Strictus” which means drawn tight and also from the Old French word “Estresse” which means narrowness or oppression.
The Dictionary defines Stress as a state of mental or emotional tension resulting from very demanding circumstances. Stress can be either bad or good depending on the situation. A good Stress provides us with energy and strength when facing physical danger while a bad Stress is a response to emotional conflictions that dawns on when we are unable to comprehend.

Family & Friends
We all have at least one person in our family we are very comfortable to talk to. It could be a parent or sibling or long relative and there is always that one friend that we can share almost everything with.
Human behavioral study shows that effective communication amongst a group of people tends to create an unbreakable bond within the individuals. Communication is key in all things, from relationships to organizations or groups. Find the person you are most comfortable with and communicate how you feel, who better other than Family & Friends.
When we communicate with Family or Friends, we get new ideas and ways we can go about handling our stress and even get relief from the act.
Sometimes, getting overwhelmed in situations are inevitable. This usually happens as a result of wanting to be over the top and in control of the situation. Bitting more than you can chew is also another way we get stressed out.
“Stress is caused by being “here” but wanting to be “there” ~ Eckhart Tolle “
When that happens, find a distraction that will take your mind off wanting to jump into the end, slow yourself down and be in the current. Depending on your environment and situation, a distraction could be either, singing, humming, or finding an activity that can quickly take your mind off that feeling.
I find breathing deeply in successions a very effective distraction that calms me down in any given situations. I also look around for any other actions happening around me for relief.
One other thing I do to distract myself from stressing is by leaving what I am currently doing and doing something else completely different for a short period of time. It could be taking a break, walking outside for some fresh air, listening to some relaxing music and then getting back to the previous activity.
Explore New Scenery
A change of scenery is another way you can relieve stress. Every once in a while, travel to a different place either domestic or abroad and experience new things.
Traveling to new places and learning about other cultures and people can make you appreciate what you have and give you great relief. Traveling can also be expensive in other sense, start locally and visit a different city in your current State or Country, take a scenic route and enjoy nature.
Take some time off of work and explore your own immediate surroundings. Getting couped up in a single place can induce stress and that is why traveling is recommended every once in a while.
Positive Thinking & Affirmations
The law of Attraction implies that you attract whatever you think about or hold in your mind. If you want to succeed, be a millionaire, or become the sexiest person of all, just hold that thought in your mind and see yourself doing or being it.
How to achieve that is not what you need to think about, the universe works in a way that whatever you keep thinking about is what you will get. Majority of us fail to comprehend and rather think about the opposite of what they want, which is the “how” and that leads to stress.
The last time you woke up so late to work and you screamed, rushed to get ready and got to work, how did that day unfold? At the moment you got disgruntled from waking up late, you kept thinking about traffic, the boss being aggressive and all the negative things that can happen. And they then happened in some form of a way you thought about it.
With that in mind, it is greatly recommended you keep positive thoughts, and say words of affirmations to yourself every chance you get. Positivity goes a long way when carried with you everywhere you go. Be as positive as you can be and see yourself doing the things you dream off without worrying on how to get there.
List & Checks
“Slow down and everything you are chasing will come around and catch you” ~ John De Paola
As humans, we try to do multiple things at a time but fail to comprehend the implications it brings on our mind. Multitasking is a trick used for the very experience. Multitasking does not necessarily mean you doing multiple things at a time. It can mean Scheduling multiple things in succession and checking them off once completed.
Making a List of the tasks you need to accomplish and crossing them off when completed is an effective way multitask and relieve stress. What you need to understand is that, when you are on a task and it appears complicated to complete at this time, leave it and move on to another task you can easily accomplish.
Leaving the complicated task opens room for you to focus on the easier tasks rather than spending your whole time on the complicated task. That leads to losing time to do other things and you get stressed when you realize the amount of time you have left and what you spent on one task.
Make a list of all you need to do and allocate a time frame for them, skip the complicated ones and do the easier ones, only then do you go back to try and cross of the complicated ones.
The outdoors is a place where amazing things and fun happens. Some use the outdoors for BBQs, water slides, parties, get-togethers, camping and many more. Others prefer the outdoors for clearing their minds and releasing stress.
Take a long walk with your favorite music blasting through your headset and get carried away from the stress. A hike in the mountains or by the river and creeks are also refreshing.
Get out more and engage in any of these activities when the urge of stressing arrives. Most people like to go fishing to pass the time and relax.
Find an activity you enjoy doing outdoors and get a few people with the same interest and make much better like they say “the more the merrier”. You can take a pet if you have one and enjoy some walks and runs, the little one will love you even more for it.
